“Look at the dates in the back,” Gary whispered, his voice halting as he looked toward the window. “He says he loaned her forty thousand in July. But the July pages are completely full, and she didn’t write down a single penny from him.”
“I know,” I said. “She recorded everything, even the forty cents she spent on the Sunday paper.”
