A small flag rested in one hand and a crushed tissue in the other. A gel cushion supported her knees, and her cane lay across her lap.
She raised the flag. “There’s our graduate!”
I ran to her, dropped to my knees, and buried my face in her lap.
“I couldn’t walk,” she said, stroking my hair. “Nobody said I couldn’t ride.”
